Wood decks are generally thin planks and require withstanding hard climatic conditions. Deck screws are specially designed to meet the requirements of making a wooden deck. A typical deck crew is equipped with certain features like corrosion- resistant, self-counterstriking, rust-resistant and self-drilling.

Deck screws are generally easy to install as they are pretty sharp. Building a deck can be a good investment that can enhance your lifestyle as well as your home value. In order to make sure that your deck lasts longer, you must use special deck crews.

A common mistake that most people do is to buy cheap decking fasteners. They end up making your deck installation a worse experience. This is particularly applicable in the cases when you are using expensive decking materials such as ipe, tigerwood, cumaru or garapa. These materials could be quite a hassle to handle as they are pretty hard.

One good thing about deck screws is that they can be taken off without causing any damage. However, over time screw heads may sink below the surface making way for debris to build up in the recessed cavity. Here are a few tips that you may find useful while taking off old deck screws:

1. Get rid of any debris that may have accumulated around the head of the screw. Use tweezers or pliers for this purpose.

2. Introduce the tip of a screwdriver into the slotted head of a screw. Apply light to medium force to on the head of the screwdriver to loosen it and set the tip of the screwdriver into the head of the screw. Turn the screwdriver in counterclockwise direction to loosen the deck screw out.

3. Use an electric drill along with a screw extractor. Set the electric drill in reverse. Place the extractor on the head of the screw and press it until a cone-shaped indentation comes out.

4. Push the extractor towards the cone shaped notch and start the drill slowly. Reverse the drill out slowly as the screw comes out of the plank.

Deck screws are ideally used for all kind of deck construction projects. They help in alleviating problems like cracks, nail raising, splits and mushrooming of boards. They are meant to last long under severe climatic conditions. They largely eliminate the need to bore pilot holes.

Do not opt for cheap deck screws just to save up on a few bucks. Superior quality screws can ensure satisfactory results in your decking projects. Screw Products Inc. deals with the best quality deck screws.
